Some clouds/ sun and showers today

As seen in the current and enhanced
inferred satellite imagery, today should be a day filled with showers at times and along with sun at times like some of you might be getting this morning. And these showers will be coming up
on southerly flow aloft as seen by the 850mb chart showing southerlies at 1pm this afternoon with temps of +5, +6c. So will likely be yet another mild day with highs in the 50`s. In fact, most places here in the central sound per weather station obs are showing upper 40`s and low 50`s while north sound obs are showing mainly mid 40`s here at almost 10am. It appears showers at times should continue through mid week as the area of low pressure now seen off our coast, spins more moisture in our direction.

Some of you may be wondering if snow in the lowlands is still a possibility of later this coming week. Right now, looks like the cold air slides east of us leaving with little chance, but will continue to look at the models daily as they come out.

Taking a moment back in time I wanted you to see a prediction for the snows we had last Thursday--although you might have already seen this. The link I am attaching is dated
Thursday, February 19th, a FULL WEEK before last weeks' snow came. Again, sometimes we can trust those distant predictions. The snow totals look pretty accurate in particular Whatcom County but not so much in Sequim where they received nearly a foot. Keep looking ahead! :)

  4. Thanks weathernerd. Maybe we`ll see something similar, though perhaps better in terms of snow here in the central sound.

  5. Andy,

I've been looking at the Extended GFS 925 mb temp loop, and it looks like at about 10:00AM on Thursday a little bit of cold air gets in here. Not to much. But we hold onto the somewhat cooler air until about 1:00PM on Saturday. Then I see that a high that started up in the GOA, starts moving down towards us which allows more colder air to come in WA and it continues to sink towards WA & OR until the last frame on Sunday which still shows the cold air in place.

What is your take on all of this? Am I making something out of nothing?

  6. Brian...no, your not making something out of nothing(chuckle). Very true. The 925mb temps do get QUITE cool next Sun and drop down to -5 or -6c. However, I think that things may change a bit and perhaps that colder air may be sliding a bit eastward. But we will soon see! And a good Example of how quickly things can change is the 12zEURO of today, which shows ridging over the weekend while the 00z last night continued the idea of a cold upper level low/trough dropping over us.

Now if this cold trough dose drop over us(taking a wild shot) would say highs no colder than the 30`s. Could be pretty frosty though is this occurs though! We`ll see what happens.
