As you all are aware, some much colder air aloft is forecasted to come over our region this weekend. And even tomorrow will be a coolish, cloudy day with perhaps some showers around as the first trough slides into the PNW, but mainly going east of us. This trough currently coming from the north is best seen on Water vapor imagery this evening.
But the colder air aloft with 925mb temps down to -5, -6c and 500mb temps down to near -40c will be sliding down over our region come LATE Saturday night into Sunday. Now on a global scale and from the 36km 500mb chart loop, this trough appears to orignate from somewhere over high nothern Russia(?). So a cold trough it is looking to be!
And this cold is what will give us some chilly highs over the weekend with highs in the 30`s to around 40 or lower 40`s with lows in the 20. Along with this cold trough also comes the possibilty of spotty snow accumulations here in the lowland it`ll certainly be cold enough aloft for snow to fall down to near sea level.
And as well all know, troughs can be and are very showery in nature. So to forecast any given snow amounts for anyone location would be hard to do. But given for the 00zWRF 24hr(5pm) snow map shows, some ares might see a few inches. But again, it will not be wide spread and with a showery trough and cold enough temps for snow, just about anyone location with some elevation could recieve a little snow for Sunday. But again, this is still 4 days out so things can still change between now and Sunday. But if anything models are now being more consistent in showing a cold trough being here for the weekend. Just how the whole deal plays out is still up for grabs. So keep looking/checking your models guys! :o)
Hey Andy. I looked at the extended snow maps amd they show southwest washington getting hit with some snow. Do you think this could be possible?
ReplyDeleteI was surprised because it is for Monday and Wednesday of next week.
ReplyDeleteBrett,
ReplyDeleteGiven for what is shown by the latest models, I think it`s possible there could a be a bit of snow for Monday and and maybe Wed like you said. We do stay quite chilly and showery through early next week, but after about Tue, it appears some models like the GFS12z/ 00zEURO/ and perhaps the GEM may want to build some sort of weak ridging just off the West coast and having us in some what dry weather. MRF kinda has the idea as well, but EURO seems to be the most noticeable one for right now.
