Breezy & showery rest of the afternoon

A very breezy and showery day out there with wind gusts mainly in the upper 20`s and into the 30`s here in the Puget sound, though Everett has recently came in with a gust to 43mph. So guess you call this a 'typical March like day' like you would expect it to be.

Anyway, as you can see by the visible satellite imagery, an area of low pressure in currently on the move toward Vancouver Island with showers rotating around it. So until this low passes through our region witch should be late tonight per recent models, conditions should remain breezy to windy at times along with showers and sun breaks. Temps will also remain cool and be in the low-mid 40`s. And with this cool and slightly unstable air mass, a few of the heavier showers could contain small hail, but other wise, just a cool and unsettled day across Western Wa.

  1. Hello Andy. Tonight there will be periods of showers and clearing. Olympia is already down to 36 degrees. With further periods of clearing, isn't it possible to get cold enough for a little bit of snow in the south sound and hood canal area by tomorrow morning. Thanks.

  2. Brett...while both UW NAM/ WRF-GFS shows scattered showers over night, I say it`s unlikely you or even me will see anymore snow over night.

Conditions at the surface(mid-upper 30`s over night) will be much to warm and added to the air temps aloft will be to warm as well. 1000ft temps show upper 30`s to right around 40. Also if you take a look at tonights 850mb loop, you`ll see the strong SWLY continuing over night into tomorrow with temps there only about -3 to -4c.

However, with the cool, unstable airmass in place now, I would`nt rule out a a few ice pellet showers in the heavier showers as I have already heard a report or two on a weather forum I`m on. But again, I really don`t think we`ll be seeing any snow tonight that sticks to the ground.
